Whoa! Today, I’m f’n 40!

F'n forty

Happy Birthday to me!

I am celebrating a milestone and entering a new phase in my journey on this planet.

I’ve learned a lot of things over the last 40 years. Everything from walking, talking, how to bath a horse, even how to tell if a pig is ready for market.

I have discovered the trials and tears of raising a family, the joys of building a house, and what it means to be your own boss.

In honour of my big day and for all the 40+ out there, I share my musings of the last 40 years.

My 40 top revelations as I enter a new chapter. When you finish the list, be sure to head to the comments and share your pearls of wisdom.

40 reflective thoughts as I enter a new beginning.

  1. It’s OK if it takes 40 years or more to figure out why you were put on this earth. Once you find it, share it. The world needs your gift.
  1. Life is too short to sit out another dance.
  1. You are the sum of the 5 people you hang out with the most. Don’t waste your time with those who do not inspire you to be more.
  1. IKEA furniture will always leave you wondering if you were supposed to have those spare parts.
  1. The only person responsible for you, and your wellbeing, is you. PERIOD.
  1. Be authentic. There is nobody else like you so don’t waste time pretending to be someone you are not.
  1. Messy houses are a sign you are living life.
  1. The news will only fill your brain with negative fuel. Turn off the news. Opt for positive. ALWAYS.
  1. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to do something. Determine the end result and figure out the how after.
  1. If you don’t understand when people talk about energy, the universe, and a connection to it, but you love Star Wars, you know more than you think. Join the light side of the Force!
  1. Your comfort zone is what is holding you back. Greatness is on the other side of that imaginary line.
  1. Residual income is the bomb!
  1. The fastest way to tell your body everything is OK, is to deep breathe for 5 minutes.
  1. I get to choose who I spend my time with so if I’m spending time with you, you must be important to me.
  1. Commitment comes in many forms, and you need to do what works for you, but I know I am one of the lucky ones who married my high school sweetheart.
  1. Coordination is over rated. I call it personal style.
  1. A goal not written down, and committed to daily, is a passing thought. Get hard core with your dreams and goals.
  1. I am not a very good employee. I can only work with someone with a boss complex for so long. This is probably why I became my own boss. I always get along with myself.
  1. I cannot keep a house plant alive and had a boss yell at me once for overwatering. Little did she know I chose not to wash her cup very well after that. Don’t mess with someone who knows how they deserve to be treated even if they cannot yet verbalize it.
  1. You will be treated the way you allow people to treat you. When I was in my 20s, I was too afraid to stand up for myself, hence the crappy washing of the cup. Today, not only do I know how to be treated but I won’t put up with anyone’s bullshit. Now you are dealing with a strong woman… A WOMAN!!
  1. I have come to the realization, as much as I enjoy the stretching, yoga bores me to no end.
  1. I love leggings. But unless you are working out, please cover your butt.
  1. Popping bubble wrap is irresistible at any age.
  1. Say goodbye to the negative people in your life. Let go of the people who whine, are downers, and choose to live in a state that festers negatively. Wish them well in your heart and move on.
  1. I will never own a car without heated seats or a remote car starter again. Seriously… Why is this not standard in Canada? And while you’re at it, make heated steering wheels standard too.
  1. When you have a cough driving you crazy at night, try Vick’s VapoRub on the bottom of your feet and cover with socks. This trick has worked well for me.
  1. Everyone should own a slow cooker and use it.
  1. You can learn to cook at any age, but start teaching your kids young about real food. In today’s world, this is a valuable gift.
  1. Whole foods are what we all need to eat.
  1. Start each morning with warm lemon water to help put your body back into an alkaline state, but brush your teeth first as your enamel is more delicate immediately after drinking lemon water.
  1. You are never too old to go for your dreams. I was in my early 30s when I got up the nerve to join Taekwon-do. At 37, I got my black belt.
  1. Not just anything goes in or on this body. Pay attention and do your homework regarding nutritional products and skin care.
  1. No is a very powerful word. Embrace it, and get comfortable using it. The only people who are looking for a yes girl are the users.
  1. Learn to drive a standard! It’s super fun and a lost skill.
  1. Your cell phone can make phone calls. Who knew! Call someone and reconnect.
  1. There is no one way for each person to eat. There is no “diet” fix. Your needs are unique to you. Listen to your body and not the marketer.
  1. I have created 3 miracles. They call me Mom.
  1. God gave me an ass that can shake and the ability to get others to do the same. It’s like my super power.
  1. I still know how to make friendship bracelets. After a 30 year hiatus, I made my first one and gave it to my daughter. She sleeps with it every night. Do something from your childhood.
  1. Forty is going to be f’n awesome! It’s fun, it’s fantastic, it’s feisty, it’s full of life, and a whole new flavour.

I am embarking on a new chapter of my life. I am the healthiest I’ve ever been, successful, and ready to take on the world.

Dear 40, you and I are going to be very good friends because we are going to show the world what 40 is all about.

Yes world… This is f’n 40, and it’s fabulous!

This is 40

Love,
Karen
